Editor’s Note: The fall practice season officially opened for business in Missouri on Monday as tryouts and training camps are in full swing. We invite all coaches to tell us about their squads. Today, Head Coach Nancy Schmer tells us about the growing Girls Field Hockey program now at the varsity level at Westminster Christian Academy. To tell us about your team, email email@example.com.
It has only taken three short years for Westminster Girls field hockey to evolve into a five team program that will field over seventy girls. This year, the Wildcats will play a full varsity, JV, and C schedule as well as participate in 7th and 8th grade middle school contests.
While we are only a few days into the season, the girls are determined to establish themselves as a thriving and competitive program. Moreover, they are proud to be be making WCA history by participating in the 2015 inaugural season.
The varsity team will be made of girls with anywhere from one to eight years of playing experience. The squad will be lead by senior midfielder Gracie Adams and senior forward Lucy Kehr who will serve as the team’s captains. Senior goalkeeper Maggie Eachus and senior defender Lindsey Falkner will be the backbone of the Wildcat’s defense. Both Falkner and Eachus have been a part of the school’s program since the twelve girl club was started in 2013. Senior midfielder workhorse Sophie Dunlap will be a key player aiding in the transition for defense to offense. Sophomore standout attacker Haley Schmer will searching for the back of the opposing net.
All of these girls are a pleasure to coach. They are dedicated, driven, and love the game. Most are natural athletes who play at least one other WCA sport. On all levels, the Wildcats are striving to be a team to watch this season!
