Gillespie Baseball Miners Searching For Gold in 2015

The high school baseball season for fans in Gillespie, IL starts Wednesday, as the Miners travel to Jerseyville…our thanks to volunteer assistant Adam Tallman for giving us a look at his team’s chances in 2015.

Last year’s record: 18-14, Lost 2-0 in sectionals to eventual state champs, Pleasant Plains

Key Returning Starters: RHP/3b SR. Brady Anderson (Verbal to NW Missouri St) SR. OF Derik Engelke, Jr C/RHP Eli Fox, So. SS/RHP Tate Wargo, JR. 2b/RHP Bryce Mckinney SR P/OF Brock Werner

Key Newcomers: We have a couple freshman that I feel can contribute, but we have some underclassmen in Carter, Middleton, Balzraine and others that we are excited to see compete for opening positions.

Biggest Question heading into the season: I would say the biggest question mark would be which underclassman wants to step up and be a big part of our season?

Key Stretch of the season? April 1st-April 10, early in the season but we have 7 games in 10 days vs quality opponents.

Toughest Opponent: Piasa SW – we seem to always battle with them every year for conference.

Season will be a success if: play the game the right way and try not to do too much.

Anything else to add? Our team has a great mixture of Seniors and underclassmen. We have a couple open spots that I would like to see players compete for starting spot at varsity level.
