The Whitfield Warriors boys basketball team’s run in 2014-15 came to an end Friday in a close OT loss to Maplewood in a district championship game, but Head Coach Mike Potsou says his team has a lot to build on for next season. The team’s top five scorers from this season (Bryce Berry, Torrence Watson, Chadd Montgomery, DeVaughn Rucker, Will Matthews) should return next fall. Here’s how the coach put the just-completed campaign in perspective:

Team’s Biggest Achievements: We won several key games this year while enjoying the process of coming together as a team.

Key Individual Accomplishments: Torrence Watson was MICDS Holiday All Tournament Team. Bryce Berry was D.C. Wilcutt All Tournament Team. Bryce Berry and Torrence Watson were selected to the All District Team.

Team’s defining game or moments: We had some nice wins over Ladue, Pattonville, Maplewood, Clayton and Duchense. We also made the district finals this year and fell two points short in OT to a quality Maplewood Team.

What about this team gave you the most pride? All the individuals who are on this team. We have great students and great people.

Team MVP: Bryce Berry and Torrence Watson. Both of these individuals had outstanding seasons.

Sixth Man Award: Chadd Montgomery. Chadd provided a spark for us coming off the bench and made several impact plays for our team with his ability to shoot the 3 and his energy.

Looking ahead: Unlike this year, we have several returning starters and key players returning. Although we lost a tough one in the district finals, I feel that will fuel this team during the off season and we will be a force next year.

Coaches, we’d like your help in putting a bow on your season. All you have to do is check out this story and fill out this brief form.
