As we head into the last regular season weekend of high school basketball action, we’re happy to share the reflections of Ft. Zumwalt South Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Mike Schneider ahead of his team’s matchup at home Friday against Troy.
Our squad comes into Senior Night with a 17-7 record. We have enjoyed some success this season with a first place finish at Rockwood Summit’s Holiday Hoops tourney, a runner-up to McCluer North at the Parkway West tourney and a GAC Central Championship.
Our success is due in large part to our senior leadership as well as the defensive tenacity of 3 sophomores. Our 3 seniors have been on varsity for four years and have become the foundation of what we do. We knew leadership was going to be a priority for us and our seniors have met the challenge. Abby Modaff is leading the seniors with 10 ppg and 5 rpg, Katie Lamkie 7ppg and 4.5 rpg and Chelsea Smith provides a key defensive match up in situations. Sophomore Hannah Karl leads the team with nearly 14 ppg and sophomores Erika Martin and Madison Schmied run the offense with 3.6 and 3.4 assists per game respectively. We go into tonight’s game with Troy ranked #7 in the area. We intend to make a respectable challenge for a district title.
The Bulldogs face Francis Howell Central Tuesday afternoon in second round district play at Howell Central.
