Friday night on the prep basketball hardwood saw conference clashes, fantastic finishes, and a record broken. A few observations worth noting:
The Lindbergh Flyers closed out a piece of school history by winning the last varsity boys basketball game to be played on the school’s original floor, put down in 1967. The Flyers defeated Parkway South 62-55 in OT, despite a career-high 23 from Connor McCarthy in a losing cause for the Patriots.
Donovan Franklin scored 18 points for the O’Fallon Township Panthers in the team’s 74-45 win against Belleville East. Franklin became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,538 points, topping a record in place for more than 44 years.
But the performance that set the internet off Friday night was the final shot from the SLUH-CBC matchup, courtesy of point guard Jordan Barnes.
The three pointer at the buzzer won it for the Cadets 55-54 over their conference rivals.
