So this preview will look a little different than the others for a simple reason. No previous season’s record. And the newcomers aren’t newcomers. For the 2014-15 Liberty Eagles Girls basketball team, everything is new. The team, made up entirely of freshman and sophomore players, is playing its inaugural varsity season in year two of the school.
Here’s coach Tracy Schmidt’s thoughts as her team prepares for history in Wentzville.
Projected Starters: Mackinsey Hamer Soph./Guard, Avery Ingle Soph. Guard, Jordan Baumann Soph/Guard, Savannah Kruse, Soph/Forward, Tori Harris Soph, Forward
Key contributors: Cari Schaeffer (out until Jan with knee injury), Amy Carnahan
What’s the biggest question mark entering the season? Can our team learn to practice and compete at the varsity level with all underclassmen; Can we get healthy (2 starters currently injured for significant lengths of time)
Is there a key stretch of your season’s schedule & why? The Washington Tournament at the end of January, as there will be good opponents and we’ll see how much we have progressed over the course of the season.
Our season will be a success if…our team makes gradual and continual improvement over the course of the season.
Our toughest opponent is…our self-confidence, we have a very tough task ahead of us in being a new varsity program.
