Season Preview: 2014-15 Kennedy Celts Boys Basketball

Kennedy Head Coach Joe Walterbach chimes in on the challenges ahead for the coming season, including a starting lineup so full of new faces, it’s still too early to know who will be on the court on opening night. How the team replaces Sam Stewart will go a long way in shaping the team’s chances. Could a version of the style of play employed by Mike Anderson at Mizzou and Arkansas be the trick? Read on:

2013-14 Record: 11-14

What’s the biggest question mark entering the season? “Can we replace our 5 starters that we lost from last year… Even though we lost a lot from last year, I do believe this team is a lot more athletic. We need to learn how to better play with our strengths. If we control the tempo of the game I like our chances. Stewart (graduated last year) was our leading scorer for the past 3 seasons. It’ll be interesting to see who will step up this year and score for us.”

Key Newcomers: Ryan McAleenan and Joe Walker

Is there a key stretch of your season’s schedule & why? “Conference play. Our conference (AAA) is loaded with talent and great teams. Playing larger schools helps us prepare for tournaments and the state playoffs.”

Our season will be a success if.…”we learn how to improve our defense. Last year we had the ability to pack it in because of the height and experience we had. This year we are missing the height and experience. We need to put pressure on the ball at all times.”

Our toughest opponent is: “Cardinal Ritter, they won state last year. Until someone knocks them off, they are the best. ”
